Town rally to a point
THATCHAM shook off their North Greenford nightmare to pop inside the M25 and emerge with a point from mid-table Hayes.
Respective goalkeepers Aldi Haximia and Aaron Bufton were the point-savers for each side in a game full of chances but only two second half goals.
Charlie Hill and Callum Willmoth had Thatcham’s best first half efforts while Hayes’ Drew Harewood was denied by Bufton but missed a simple opening.
It was not until just inside the hour that the deadlock was broken when Harewood was put in to beat Bufton and the same player promptly hit the woodwork before Thatcham equalised when substitute Liam Painter got the vital touch in a goalmouth scramble with 15 minutes to go.
Graham Lewis hit the bar in the first half and Tristam Dennis had an effort cleared off the line before Lewis converted a Danny Williamson cross to open the scoring after the break.
But Newbury hit back five minutes later when Dennis brought down Kalief Madden and Barry Elmore scored from the spot.
They went ahead inside 15 minutes when Matt Pedder moved on Sam Mooney’s throw to Domenico Greograce and he cut inside to fire past the goalkeeper.
Pedder missed a close range chance and Steve Howe saved well from Sam Taylor before Lambourn scored their decisive second goal just after the hour mark when Mooney crossed perfectly for Pedder to strike from close in.
