Town rally to shake off Kingston dismissal

Win at Clevedon means Thatcham can go back to the top of the table on Tuesday night

Clevedon Town 1 Thatcham Town 2

A POINT at Wimborne on Tuesday night will be enough to take Thatcham back to the top of the Evo Stik League's Division One South and West table after they came from behind to win in Somerset on Saturday.

They had to survive the sending off of Shane Kingston on a day when they already had four players out through suspension and Marc Green sidelined by injury.

Kingston had threatened to make an early mark when his shot prompted appeals for handball before Clevedon went ahead midway through the first half when Chas Hemmings headed home Ashley Kington's free kick.

Cameron Ricketts hit the post shortly afterwards before Thatcham rallied with Mark Hughes going close before they pulled level before the break when James Clark set up Jemel Johnson to fire past goalkeeper Alex Harris.

The same combination came up trumps again just after the hour mark when Clark was again the provider, sending Johnson in to pick his spot.

Kingston saw red for a careless lunge and Clevedon's Sam Teale followed him for his response and Paul Strudley's save from Dan Harrison preserved the points as Thatcham go to Wimborne a point behind Sholing but with that and another game in hand.
