Town reeled in by Heathens

Title rivals open up the race with three-goal show

Flackwell Heath 3 Thatcham Town 0

HELLENIC League leaders Town were pegged back by one of their main rivals as they crashed to an own goal, a penalty and an orthodox third goal at Wilks Park on Saturday.

Town were hit by an early double strike after coming under early pressure. Liam Tack’s cross was headed into his own goal by Danny Lachacz after 15 minutes, and two minutes later Ismael Ehui was brought down by Tom Browne for Danny Burnell to score from the spot.

Thatcham had started with only Jon Bennett up front and rarely posed a threat, and the game was as good as over two minutes into the second period when Dan Rapley was played in for number three.

Shane Cooper-Clark came on after an hour, but there was no way back for Thatcham, who saw their lead cut to two points with Heath also having a game in hand with Kidlington 10 points behind Town with four matches in hand.

Thatcham are due back in action at Waterside Park on Tuesday night when they face Thame United in the quarter finals of the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup.
