THATCHAM were knocked off the top of the Hellenic League’s Premier Division as lower half Bassett handed Town their first home defeat of the season.
With new striker Shane Cooper-Clark not yet fit and Jon Bennett and Ian Davies left on the bench, the visitors comfortably shackled Thatcham for much of the game before grabbing the points with a last minute winner.
The sides spent an hour with 10 men apiece after Danny Lachacz and Matt Cheetham had been sent off following an off the ball incident, but Bassett who had lost their previous three games and stood 13th in the table, held firm with Adam Corcoran outstanding.
They had already taken the lead when Harvey Scholes netted a superb goal after beaitng severad efenders before firing the ball past Chris Rackley, and although Town made chances, they failed to finish until two minutes from time when Josh Hemore stabbed home a corner.
But hopes of snatching the points were scotched when Bassett did that, Steve Robertson turning his marker bfore beating Rackley and making Bassett only the second side to beat Thatcham in league action this season, behind new leaders Kidlington.
