Town's 10 take a point

Seven games without a win for Thatcham while Hungerford lose on 'bogey' ground

HUNGERFORD'S Kayte Lane ‘bogey' reared its head again as a single second half goal gave Bishops Cleeve victory in the Evo Stik League and leaves Hungerford still looking for their first win at the Gloucestershire ground.

Hungerford started brightly and Cleeve goalkeeper James Nortei had to save well when faced by Ray Spence. But otherwise Hungerford wasted possession in a goal-less first half and it was Cleeve who struck the decisive goal after 66 minutes when Carl Brown broke away to cut inside and beat teenager goalkeeper Dan Lincoln.

Nortei saved a Dean Stow free kick and finally preserved his side's three points when he tipped over a Harry Goodger header in the closing stages.

Hungerford face another tricky away game tonight (Monday) when they travel to Gosport Borough.

THATCHAM reached game number seven without a win as they take their turn in the ‘blip battle' at the top of the Evo Stik League's Division One South and West.

They were held to a goal-less draw by Poole Town at Waterside Park, after playing the final 30 minutes with 10 men after defender Mark Hughes was sent off.

Town set off with a streak of corners and a headed chance for Sam Flegg, but after that it was Poole who had the greater possession, but not much more threat.

Paul Strudley fielded what did get past Gareth Thomas and his defensive colleagues, although Poole had the nearest miss when Micky Hubbard headed against the foot of a post shortly before the interval.

Mark James had a chance to break the deadlock shortly after the interval but shot off the mark when well placed, but Thatcham were soon having to re-adjust their ambitions when they had Hughes sent off after collecting his second yellow card. Matt Bowler replaced striker James Clark as Thatcham opted for containment and although Michael Walker had Strudley stretching for a header, there were few thrills at either end as both sides settled for a point.
