Behind the scenes with the Signys
Lambourn’s Oliver Signy is one of seven Berkshire trainers opening their yards to the public as part of National Racehorse Week, which runs between September 10 and 18.
Casual and committed racing fans alike are invited to visit Signy’s Croft Stables on Wednesday, September 14 and will have the chance to meet his team and his racehorses as well as watch a demonstration from a farrier.
“We want to give something back, we want people to see what goes on behind the scenes and to come and have a chat with us,” Signy said.
“It’s about showing the best of what racing has to offer, it promises to be a lovely day out.
“We want to invite everyone, no matter how interested they are in the sport, it’s a chance for people to come and have a look for themselves.”
Having worked as assistant to Oliver Sherwood, Jonathan Sheppard and Jamie Snowden, Signy took out his own license in September 2019 and moved into the Lambourn stables he now calls home.
He said: “I took out my license in September, had my first runner under my name at the end of October, then we had the pandemic.
“We’ve come out the other side, we’ve come out stronger, we’ve got some very loyal owners, some great owners.
“We’ve got some exciting new owners too and we’re expanding the team, it’s all going in the right direction.
“Lambourn feels like home, I’ve spent a lot of time as assistant here so I know it well.
“We’ve got amazing facilities, contacts and suppliers in the area, as a young trainer, that’s a big advantage.
“We’re trying hard to make a name for ourselves, we need a couple of big winners and we’re hoping for that this season.
“National Racehorse Week provides a great platform for us to advertise ourselves, to sell ourselves if you like, ahead of an exciting season to come.”
Signy is hoping the likes of French Paradoxe, who won at Doncaster in March, No Word of a Lie, winner at Sedgefield last season, and novice hurdler The Scorpion King will make it a very successful season indeed.
Nationwide, Signy's Croft Stables is part of over 150 venues taking part in National Racehorse Week, which begins today.
