It was a triumphant return for the home teams at the Newbury Junior Netball Club tournament at the weekend.

The club was able to host its annual tournament for the first time since the start of the pandemic and its teams made sure it was a successful day on the courts.

The tournament saw 10 under 11 teams, including two Newbury sides, take to the courts at St Gabriel's School.

There was plenty of great play from both Newbury sides, with the under 11 Newbury Jade side finishing strongly in third place, just being pipped to a medal.

In the under 12's event, six teams, including two from Newbury, battled it out on the courts.

Some superb teamwork from the whole side saw the under 12 Newbury Blues finish winners of their age group.

All of the club's coaches said they "were really proud of all the girls and how they bonded as teams today".

The club's head coach, Helen Thompson, said it had been "fantastic to see so many people out enjoying the sunshine and netball all together again".

She added: "It was great to be back on the courts and to see all the girls having so much fun together was lovely."
