Tullochs on top form as both Hungerford sides win at weekend

Skipper Billie Tulloch smashed 75 as Hungerford were emphatic 109-run winners over Michelmersh and Timsbury to move to the top of the Hampshire Cricket League Division 4 North table.

Tulloch won the toss and opted to bat and openers Spencer Annetts and Ian Woolf made a solid start, putting on 64 for the first wicket before Woolf was caught for 12.

Annetts was looking to take the game to Michelmersh and reached his half century in double quick time before he was caught for a better-than-run-a-ball 52 with the score 73/2.

Sam Hack and the newly-introduced Tulloch continued in the same vein, with Hack hitting seven fours as he scored a quickfire 34 from 28 balls.

Tulloch looked in fine touch, racing to his 50 and adding 45 with Oliver Tulloch before he was eventually trapped lbw for a fine innings of 75 that included nine boundaries and came from just 80 balls.

Oliver was the second Tulloch back in the pavilion shortly after when he was bowled for 21 while some late runs from Al Masbero (21) helped Hungerford to an extremely healthy first innings total of 250/9 from their 45 overs.

Following an inspirational pep-talk and even better tea from Sue Tulloch, Hungerford were in the field and putting the pressure on.

In response, the visitors put on 21 for the first wicket before Robert Grimmond struck, signalling a collapse as another three wickets fell in quick succession as Michelmersh struggled to 30/4.

Grimmond, whose seven overs yielded two wickets for just five runs at an economy rate of 0.71, and Jasper Rich (3-27) did most of the early damage before the two Hacks teamed up to make light work of the middle order, with Jon (2-37) and Sam (2-18) sharing four wickets.

Michelmersh offered some resistance in the lower-middle order but were no match for Hungerford, reaching 141 before their final wicket fell with the best part of seven overs still remaining.

Meanwhile, the second team had their bowlers to thank as they made it two wins from three in Division 6 North West following a four wicket defeat of Steeple Langford.

Captain Freddie Tulloch used eight bowlers as Hungerford dismissed the hosts, who opted to bat after winning the toss, for a sub-par 142.

Aaron Bloomfield was the pick of them, finishing with fantastic figures of 3-3 from his five overs, while there were two wickets each for Tulloch (2-9) and Shantanu Thakare (2-32).

The visitors made a disastrous start with the bat, losing both openers for ducks, but a 48-run partnership between Lee Franklin and Mark Cox steadied the ship before Cox was bowled for 20.

Tulloch, who was dropped six times and almost run out, scored a quickfire 37 from 43 balls but it was Franklin’s watchful innings that proved decisive as he was run out for a well-made 60 with victory now in sight.

That left Oscar Fry (5 not out) to score the winning runs as Hungerford made it home with more than 12 overs still in hand.
