Two off as Newbury win Lambourn derby clash

Kalejaiye double gives Newbury breathing space to survive Lambourn comeback

NEWBURY won Saturday's big Hellenic League derby that ended with each side having a man sent off in front of a three-figure crowd.

It was nightmare start for Lambourn new boys Matt Pedder and Ben McCready. The former was shown a red card after seeing yellow twice in the opening period, and McCready was forced out of the action by injury after the interval, when Newbury had Danny Lachacz sent off.

Newbury led 2-0 at half-time, a Pedder foul enabling Barry Elmore to cross for Jeff Kalejaiye to score with a glancing header before Kalejaiye struck again when racing through a motionless Lambourn defence to score.

Lambourn responded well to Pedder's dismissal two minutes before the break to raise their game, and they clawed one back when Terry Woods' cross was turned into his own net by Tommy Langfrey.

But the nearest they got to an equaliser was when Sam Mooney's free kick was glanced agonisingly wide by Ben Matthews with three minutes to go.
