Holt touches down in Devon as Ladies continue to soar
Newbury Ladies delivered another scintillating performance to thump Cullompton 46-0 in Devon and maintain their 100 per cent record in the Women’s Championship South West 2.
The reverse fixture last month proved a tight affair, with just eight points separating the sides but Blues were at their absolute best in the south west and returned home with a comfortable bonus point win.
Anna Krzyzanowska has scored for fun this season and the rapid winger was at it again within minutes of kick-off on Sunday, finding space wide left and touching down for the first try of the contest to make it 5-0.
In truth, the visitors were dominant all over the pitch and Cullompton found it difficult to cope with their fluid back line and powerful and aggressive forwards as Blues dominated at the breakdown and the scrum.
The boot of Chloe Hunt extended Newbury's lead to 8-0 with a penalty before two tries in quick succession from Devon Holt and then Emma Paton-Robinson moved the ladies into a commanding lead.
Cullompton struggled to lay a glove on their visitors and were scrambling to keep the scoreline manageable but when Lizzie Harris spotted a gap in the home side's defence and flew through to score and extend the lead to 34-0 it was a case of damage limitation for the hosts.
Blues' backs were flying and there was still time for both Krzyzanowska and Harris to score again to move the final score to 46-0 and make it 14 wins in a row for the impressive visitors.
Lozzie Price-Richards was awarded the Renegade Brewery player of the match for a typically dynamic display.
Newbury are now set for an extended break before returning to action on April 15 with the visit of Cheltenham Ladies on what promises to be a memorable weekend for the club with both the men's Blues and Stags teams as well as both women's teams turning out at Monks Lane before the mini's festival the following day, April 16.
