Up and down setbacks
Falkland are now 40 points adrift of the field in Division Two West of the Home Counties Premier League after Saturday’s seven wicket defeat at Dinton.
Dinton were on the fringes of the relegation zone but they managed to overhaul Falkland’s 248 to win with overs to spare.
The visitors looked like setting a testing figure, despite losing Stephen Pope and Matt Jones comparatively early. But skipper Bruce Martina and Berkshire captain James Morris shook up the home side in their century stand, Morris eventually falling for 64 to Henry Woodward and Martin one short of his century to Alister Gibbins.
That sent the change bowlers on their way to five-apiece with only Rehman Akram (12) and Ian Slatcher (15) escaping single figures as Woodward took 5-45 and Gibbins 5-94 in his 25.5 overs as Falkland were all out for 248 just inside 60 overs.
But any test was dulled as openers Michael Sutliff (28) and Liam Gough (27) held off the early attack before Gibbins (89) and Woodward took charge, and although Akram claimed Gibbins’ wicket, Woodward went on to score an unbeaten 67 with Lee Marland 29 not out when Dinton hit their mark at 249-3 in the 46th over.
were dealt a blow to their Thames Valley League Division Two B promotion hopes when they went down by two wickets to Boyne Hill on Saturday.
Thatcham posted a competitive 258-5 in their 52 overs with Simon Rider making an unbeaten 88 , but Hill got home at the death, Fernando scoring 88 and Johnson 66 as they squeezed through at the end of the 48th over to score 260-8.
