Uphill task for Newbury drivers

Gurtston Hill climb will test trio at speeds up to 150mph

THREE Newbury drivers will be hoping to go up fast when they take part in Sunday's British Speed Hill Climb Championship rounds at Gurston Down.

Tom Bloxsom lines up in the class for modified limid production cars up to 1400cc, while George and Richard Brown contest the class for racing cars from 601-100cc.

They are among 140 of the country's top hill climbers and 30 motorcycle riders tackling rounds seven and eight at Gurston Farm at Boadchalke in Wiltshire.

The spectacular course sees them fly up the 12-foot wide, 1057 yard long tarmac course, which rises 140 feet with cars reaching 130mph in five seconds.

Practice day is Saturday and the main events starts on Sunday at 10.30am.
