VOLLEYBALL
NEWBURY Volleyball Club's National League Two South survival was left hanging by a thread after they went down to bottom of the table Portsmouth in straight sets at the weekend.
Newbury had beaten prom otion-chasing Sussex Dolphins the previous week to boost their survival chances, but it was a severely depleted side that lost to Portsmouth.
And now it depends which Newbury turns up for their final outing on Saturday when they take on table-topping Tendring at Bradfield College.
CRICKET
FALKLAND have been drawn away to Harefield in the opening round of the inaugural Homs Counties Premier League Twenty20 competiton.
The tie is due to be played on Monday, May 2.
Thirty-two teams will be fighting it out for a place in the final, which is due to be played at Oxford CC on Sunday, July 17.
ATHLETICS
MORE than 1,300 young runners will be taking part in the West Berks and North Hants Primary Schools Cross Country Championships on Tuesday.
Forty five schools are attending the event organised by Team Kennet at Newbury Racecourse, which starts with the year three and four girls race at 1.45pm.
