West Berks win Central Sevens promotion




West Berkshire Golf Club won their last game of the season to win Division Two of the Central Sevens Golf League.

The team travelled to Waterstock on Saturday knowing that a half would ensure promotion to Division One next season, but skipper Stuart Murphy and his team threw caution to the wind to wrap up a 6-1 win that saw them finish three points clear of Hinksey Heights.

Luke Prestoe won Division One of the men’s October medal, finishing three shots clear of runners-up Greg Collins and Tim Palmer.

Simon Barrie was Division Two champion thanks to a fine round in which he finished a stroke clear of second placed Paul Beake and a further three shots ahead of Dan Bowsher back in third.

Ricky Skrzydlo won the seniors' medal, finishing two shots ahead of Graham Mort and four clear of John Loader.

Jane Brackenbury scored 36 points to win round two of the ladies' Gillas Cup.

She finished three clear of Emma Hackett, who beat Paula Corfield on countback to take second place.

Lyn Pell won the ladies' midweek stableford competition with 36 points, while Robin Knape won the men's event with 34 points.

Ann Brown was ladies runner-up, while there was a three-way tie in the men's competition with placings in the order of Terry Clark, Rod Maloney and John Cole decided on countback.

Countback was also required to separate Dan Hawkins and Ciaran Jones in the men's Saturday stableford, crowning Hawkins the eventual winner.

The scratch team won their last match of the season 3-0 at home to Burford while a mixed team entertained Bradfield College, winning 5-0.
