Wilkinson stays with Hungerford

Approach from National League for manager rejected with promotion on the agenda at Bulpit Lane

HUNGERFORD TOWN have rejected an approach from a National League club to speak to Bobby Wilkinson about its management vacancy.

The club this week made a formal approach to club chairman Nigel Warrick but after talking to Wilkinson, the club’s overtures have been rejected.

“Bobby and I have met and talked about the opportunity but he is adamant about finishing the job in hand,” said Warrick.

“Our joint goal is to get promoted this season and Bobby wishes to honour his contract with Hungerford and mature the players that we have so carefully nurtured into one of the most exciting squads in the league.”

Wilkinson confirmed that he had been made aware of the approach, and said: “Of course, it’s flattering.

“But I have a job to do here and I don’t want any distractions from that.”

Wilkinson signed a new two-year deal with Hungerford late last year after overseeing another promotion push for one of the smallest clubs at that level of non-league football and masterminding a run to the Third Round of the FA Trophy this season before bowing out at Chester.
