Williams looks for improved bowling performance

Thatcham skipper is looking for more consistency from his bowlers in the clash with Beaconsfield tomorrow (Saturday)

THATCHAM skipper Danny Williams is looking for an improved bowling performance tomorrow (Saturday) after seeing his side crash to a second successive seven wicket defeat on Saturday.

After slipping to a seven wicket defeat at home to Amersham last week, Thatcham again lost by seven wickets on Saturday having made 202 themselves in 52 overs against Henley II, only to see their opponents race to victory scoring 205-3 from 45.1 overs.

Williams said: “We did well to score 202 against a decent bowling attack and we thought we were in with a chance of a win.

“Then we got a couple of early wickets and we were feeling confident, but their skipper built an innings and they put on 150 before we got the next wicket - we just didn't have a response.”

Williams said he was looking for his bowlers to cut the bad balls out of their game tomorrow when they travel to Beaconsfield, who sit just one place and nine points above Thatcham in the Thames Valley Cricket League Division One table.

He said: “Our bowlers just aren't bowling consistently enough at the moment and we need to put the ball in the right areas more often.

“If we can do that we have got a chance.”

Williams said his side would take confidence from their last encounter with Beaconsfield in the first game of the season, when Thatcham won by 66 runs, although he said he still expected a tough game.

“They have improved since then and they have started to score runs in recent weeks, but we feel we can beat them,” said Williams.

“Our batsmen are scoring runs again, it is just the bowling we need to put right.”

Thatcham are likely to be unchanged for the match in Buckinghamshire, which starts at 1pm tomorrow (Saturday).
