Romeo believes in FA Cup magic
It was honours even as Yashwa Romeo’s Thatcham Town drew 1-1 with Aldermaston in the Kingfishers penultimate pre-season game on Saturday thanks to a stunning strike from Cory Hathaway.
“We did well, it wasn’t too bad, we had a few, five or six, out with injuries,” Romeo said.
“It gave me a chance to look at some other players, some have come in and some have gone, I’m still thinking about a few.
“Our injuries aren’t serious, it was more a precaution, it was important to have the weekend to look at our squad.”
Thatcham have announced the signings of forward Justin Davis and defenders Bogdan Stolboushkin and Rob Gerrard, who returns to the Kingfishers after a stint in Australia.
“Justin’s a young prospect, he’s energetic, he’s got good vision and likes a forward pass, he’s come on leaps and bounds,” Romeo said.
“I think there’s lots to come from him, he’s got a good future.
“Bogdan’s a centre half, we needed to beef up our defensive options, he’s a solid defender, good in the air, a good addition to the squad.
“Rob’s been in Australia the last two years, I know him from when he was at Aldershot and Maidenhead, he gives us experience and options across the back four.”
Thatcham are in FA Cup action at the weekend when the Kingfishers host Horndean in the extra preliminary round at the Stacatruc Stadium.
"It's a big competition, a real money spinner for the club, it's special," Romeo said.
Romeo has fond memories of the FA Cup, having reached the first round proper on three separate occasions in his playing days – how he’d love to do so again as a manager.
