Young Newbury side fall to Burghfield ahead of Faraday Road homecoming
Newbury Football Club suffered defeat at home to Burghfield on Saturday.
The match at Henwick saw Newbury field six players under the age of eighteen at one point in the second half.
Leo Sidiobay scored Newbury’s only goal of the afternoon, capping a performance which saw him awarded Man of the Match.
This was not enough to stop fifth place Burghfield however, who ran out 3-1 winner
Oliver Brown got the visitors underway with an eleventh minute strike, before Jack Bowyer added a second in the 47th.
Harvey Beales arrived off the bench to add a third with ten left to play.
Newbury will host Holyport Reserves at Henwick on Saturday, their last game before their Faraday Road homecoming against Abingdon Abbotts on the 9th.
They’ll be hoping for some points too, finding themselves second from bottom and facing a Holyport side with just three wins to their name.
Elsewhere, in Division One Mortimer Reserves endured a tough day at the office as they hosted Yateley United A at Alfred Palmer Memorial Playing Fields.
Trevor Mutero scored for the hosts, but it was in vain as Yateley ran out 4-1 winners.
Matthew Handcock, Jake Lord, Sam Munden and Myles White all scored for the visitors, while Michael Stairs was sent off.
Burghfield reserves were eliminated from the David Grainge Saturday Junior Trophy, as they lost 3-1 at home to Allied Community Elite.
Koray Atik’s 27th minute goal was cancelled out by a Muhammed Kalokoh hat-trick, before the match winner was sent off for a second yellow.
Goring United also struggled, as they lost 3-0 at home to Westwood Wanderers Reserves.
Two goals from Matthew Evans and one by Jamie Porter handed top of the league Goring their first loss of the season.
Meanwhile in Division Two, AFC Aldermaston Reserves rose to third in the league.
A goal from Kyle Bedford and a brace from Owen Prince saw them beat 10-man Woodley United Royals 3-0.
