Aldbourne Band the best in the west after close battle with current National Champions
They’ve done it! Aldbourne Band are Champions of West of England 2025.
The Wiltshire brass band won the top trophy after a close battle with the current National Champions.
Aldbourne Band won the prestigious Championship Section of the West of England Brass Band competition, recently held at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay.
“The players really worked hard to combine each of the musical elements, and I was delighted at the way they performed on stage. This is a band with great attitude and a desire to keep improving” said Aldbourne band musical director Glyn Williams.
All bands competing in the Championship section played the same composition entitled Diversions by Derek Bourgeois. Adjudicators Tom Davoren and Roger Argente described Aldbourne’s performance as “Musical, masterful, and breath-taking.”
“Everyone in the band is incredibly proud of this outstanding achievement” said Aldbourne Band chairman Matthew Richardson. “The commitment and dedication is outstanding and we are looking forward to representing the West of England against the best brass bands in the UK at the National Finals, at the Royal Albert Hall in October.“
Originally formed in 1860, the band is based in Aldbourne near Marlborough . Its aim is to provide consistently high standards of music performances on both the concert and contest platforms.
2025 Winner of the West of England regional brass band championships, the band has consistently been ranked in the top 20 bands in the world by contest achievements and has been a finalist in five of the last six National Championships at the Royal Albert Hall. Through competitive status, it will compete against 20 of the top bands in the world at the British Open Brass Band Contest in September
