As much as 50mm of rain is possible by the end of Thursday according to the Met Office who issued a severe weather warning today (Tuesday) for the whole of the South East.

The yellow warning – meaning “be aware”, for rain is valid across Berkshire from 6am Thursday until 11.50pm on Friday.

Heavy rain is expected to reach the county on Thursday morning before moving northwards across the south of England during the day.

On Friday forecaster’s warn of persistent rain together with hail and thunder, before easing during the night.

The chief forecaster warned: “The public should be aware of a significant risk of very localised disruption to travel due to surface water flooding.
