A34 lane closure could be in place all day

Highways Agency warning to motorists

A LANE closure on the A34 northbound could be in place for the rest of the day, the Highways Agency has warned.

The road was closed northbound between Chieveley and East Ilsley, this morning - resulting in eight mile queues back to Tot Hill Services.

One lane was reopened shortly before 8am, but there are still delays of around 15 minutes in the area.

The Highways Agency said it was hoping to put in a temporary fix which would allow it to open both lanes this afternoon.

However it stressed that, if this could not be done, one lane would remain closed for safety reasons.

The reason for the closure was that overnight roadworks were unfinished due to machinery breaking down.

There will be another overnight closure tonight, from 9pm to 6am, to finish the work.
