FIREFIGHTERS extinguished an intentional bonfire in Northcroft woodland with buckets of water yesterday evening (Monday).

One pump was called at 8.45pm from Newbury Fire Station to a bonfire in woodland at the back of Northcroft Lane, next to the River Kennet.

Firefighters extinguished the fire using buckets of water from the river.

The cause of the fire was put down to 'intentional with potential to spread' by the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS).
