Long delays on A339 Basingstoke/Newbury set to continue until Thursday morning

Repairs to burst water main likely to take up to four days

DRIVERS on the A339 between Basingstoke and Newbury are set to experience long delays around the Headley area, and until Thursday morning, due to a burst water main.

Thames Water has confirmed there is a burst water main at the Thornford Road junction/roundabout of the A339, near Headley village.

Thames Water spokesperson, Martin Wells, issued the following statement:

“We worked around the clock at the weekend to repair a large water pipe, which burst on Friday night.

We’re sorry for the disruption, but the temporary traffic lights need to stay in place until we’ve finished repairing the damage to the road.”

We hope to be finished by Thursday morning."

Traffic has been reported this morning (Monday) queuing from the Swan roundabout to the Thornford Road roundabout in Headley, with delays of around 30 minutes this morning.

Drivers are advised to seek an alternative route.
