Proclamation of King Charles to be read in Newbury tomorrow
An official announcement of the new King will be read in Newbury tomorrow (Sunday).
The proclamation will be read by the chairman of West Berkshire Council councillor Rick Jones, in the Market Place at around 2pm.
The reading will be attended by local dignitaries and will last 10-15 minutes.
Also participating in the event will be deputy Lord lieutenant Paul Dick and Mayor of Newbury Gary Norman.
Members of the public have invited to attend the reading.
The reading of the Official Proclamation last took place in February 1952 when Queen Elizabeth II was pronounced Queen after the death of her father King George VI.
Thatcham and Hungerford will also be staging a reading of the Official Proclamation on Sunday.
The national proclamation will be read today (Saturday) where Charles will officially be proclaimed King at St James's Palace.
